Science experiments - variables

04 Dec 2008

Our Keywords / Ā Mātou Kupu Matua:
science

What is the difference between independent, dependent, and controlled variables in science?

LEVEL: Secondary

HOT TIP: check out the science glossary on the Studyit website and do a search for 'glossary', in the search box at the top right of the page - which will take you to the science glossary. Scroll down the alphabet to 'V' for variables, and there is a good description of the difference between independent, dependent, and controlled variables.

HOT TIP: Try Google Define feature. The trick is to type the word define: (with the colon) in front of the word you want to define, then click Search. eg If you wanted to define the term idependent variables, your search would be define: idependent variables. This searches for all the meanings on the web that define your word.

HOT TIP: Reading a few different definitions will help your understanding of the topic. If you don't understand, keep looking for one that uses language at your level.
