Where can I find information about the history of NZ's electoral system?
Level: Intermediate / Secondary
The DigitalNZ website has a great range of New Zealand information dating back to 1840, with lots on the electoral system. Try entering electoral system into the search box. Click "open filters" to narrow the search - choosing 'reference' will limit your hit list to reference articles. Or choosing 'news' will limit it to news items. Or you can just get images. Once you've chosen an item you can go directly to the website the information is stored on.
We also like Te Ara - The Encyclopedia of New Zealand for historic information. Try entering electoral system into the search box.
There are also several articles on the history of the Vote on the NZ Elections Site.
HOT TIP: Another place to look is Wikipedia which has great coverage of many topics, including the New Zealand electoral system. Try entering New Zealand electoral system into the search box, and when you choose an article remember to look at the "see also" section for related articles. But you need to be aware that this information is contributed by lots of different people. If you are using this site, it always pays to check the information against that on other sites or in books from the library.
