What is harakeke?

Level: Primary / Intermediate

Harakeke is the Māori term for what is more commonly known as 'flax'.  The term flax was given to the plant because its fibres are very similar to that of other plants found in other parts of the world.

DOC (Dept of Conservation) have a fantastic site about Harakeke that we suggest you check out first.

If you are after information about the different uses such as weaving, try using the seach term 'raranga' 'raranga harakeke' 'flax weaving'
