Google features

Our Keywords / Ā Mātou Kupu Matua:
General

Searching for definitions:

The trick is to type the word define: (with the colon) in front of the word you want to define, then click Search. E.g. If you wanted to define the word titration, your search would be define: titration. This searches for all the meanings on the web that define your word. HOT TIP: Reading a few different definitions will help your understanding of the topic. If you don't understand, keep looking for one that uses language at your level.

Searching for images:

You can use the Google Image feature to find a range of great photos and pictures! For example if you wanted a picture of an mp3 player: Go to Google. Click on the Images link above the search box (in top left corner). Type in mp3 player, then click on search images. HOT TIP: You can usually see the full size image by double clicking on the thumbnail sized one.

Use as a calculator:

You can even use Google as a calculator! Just type in your maths equation e.g. 565*874 (using an asterix instead of times) it will give you the answer. Note: Plus (+), minus (-), and divide (/) signs can be used, it's just the times one that is different.

Unit conversion:

Similar to using Google as a calculator - it will also convert measurements for you (different units of measurement of height, weight, and mass). Just enter the conversion you need in the search box e.g. 10.5cm in inches or 1 kilo in grams and they do the rest!

Whats up how come I can't acess Google?
Annie, West End School

Hi Annie, sometimes websites we refer to in ManyAnswers are unavailable for short periods of time. It's just part of how the internet works! Usually they go back up again quite quickly, so it's a good idea to wait for a bit and then try again. If you keep not being able to access Google, you could try using a different web browser (some examples are Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, and Firefox - you might have more than one browser already on your computer). If that still doesn't work, you could ask a teacher or librarian at your school to look into the problem for you :)
